Description

Duncan Cameron (1777-1853), a white enslaver, was a banker, a judge, and one of the largest plantation owners in the American South. In 1802, he was named a trustee of the historically white University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. By the 1850s, he claimed in ownership more than 1,000 people who lived and worked in Orange County, N.C., Wake County, N.C., Greene County, Ala., and Tunica County, Miss.
